Flash’s Dash by Emily Bliss and Sydney Hanson
Cressida Jenkins is headed back to Rainbow Realm. The Unicorn Princesses have invited her to be the first human girl to run in the Thunder Dash race. This year, for the first time, the race is open not just to the unicorns, but to all the creatures of Rainbow Realm, and it’s sure to be a huge event. That is, until the Cressida and Flash discover that Ernest the wizard-lizard has been playing around with spells again, and the entire race course is covered with strawberry cake batter. Cressida will need to use her creativity and a little patience to get the race course open on time.
Caveboy Is Bored!, by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen and Eric Wight
Caveboy is bored. He’s fed his pet rock and thumped everything he can think of with his club. He’s even played baseskull with Mama and Papa. But now Mama and Papa both have chores, his best friend Mags is busy with a bone flute lesson, and Caveboy has nobody to play with. Nobody, that is, except Sister. But Sister is small, and always smells like burps. Who wants to play with her? Definitely not Caveboy. In typical younger sibling fashion, Sister is persistent and when she finally wears him down, Caveboy discovers Sister is more fun than he thought.
Humphrey’s Treasure Hunt Trouble, by Betty G. Birney and Priscilla Burris
Humphrey the hamster and Og the frog are the class pets in Room 26. This weekend, Humphrey and Og have both gone home with Garth, which is just fine with Humphrey because Garth is having a birthday party! Even better, the birthday party involves a treasure hunt, and the treasure—a tiny chest—is hidden under the bedding in Humphrey’s very own cage. When a thief comes in the night and steals the treasure, Humphrey has to tell Garth. But humans never understand hamster squeaks. How will Humphrey save the treasure hunt from being a total disaster?
The Long Way Home, by Gigi Priebe and Daniel Duncan
Adventure-loving Henry lives with his family in Queen Mary’s Dollhouse, located in Windsor Castle. While out exploring one night, Henry finds a map written by his deceased father’s own paw. He runs to find his cousin Jeremy in the kitchen, where he’s scavenging for a snack. When Jeremy and Henry are caught, they’re sure it’s the end. But the kindly cook instead drives them far from the castle and releases them into a field. They’re alive, for now, but will they ever get home? And what’s the mystery behind the map? Turns out those two questions may have a common answer.
The Mouse House, by Poppy Green and Jennifer A. Bell
Sophie Mouse is thrilled to be invited to her best friend Ellie’s birthday party, as any little mouse would be. She carefully creates a birthday card especially for Ellie and looks forward to the games and treats. But then Ellie receives a gift that Sophie has always wanted; a mouse house, complete with tiny little mice and furniture. Sophie knows she should be happy for her friends, but she can’t quiet tamp down that feeling of jealousy. It’s a tough lesson all kids must learn: sometimes we can’t have what we most want.
